Flora

The Mega Boot socks are coming along nicely, I started the second one yesterday. Not very interesting to take pictures of, so instead I want to show you something I made in the beginning of the year.

Meet Flora:

A pattern by Alice Starmore. I bought the kit just before new year 2005, at De Schapekop in Nieuwpoort. I enjoyed knitting it immensly. I did my first steek and finished the thing in about 3 weeks.

And I haven't worn it yet.
Somehow, the shape is wrong for me. Wearing it makes me feel big and awkward. I think it has to do with the lack of shaping, but I'm afraid nothing can be done about that now. Or do you have a brilliant idea for a modification? Please let me know!

Because I do like the colors....

I've got wheels!

Well, I already had bicycle of course, but it was very old. Too bad I don't have a picture of it, but it was given to me on my 12th birthday. I had to cycle 12 kilometers on it to school everyday, for 6 years. After that, it went with me to university, so I drove it all around Groningen for another six years. Then it moved with me to Utrecht and Nijmegen, and after 20 years of faithfull service, it was time to retire it.

So here it is, fresh from the shop, my new bicycle!

Fiets.jpg

It's a Batavus, it has 7 gears (or whatever are they called), very special breaks and, best of all, a hub dynamo! So no more problems with dynamos that break down: this one works in all conditions!

Can you tell I'm happy with it?

Flora is stunning and very impressive! If I weren't wearing it, I would be sad, too. Could you re-seam the sides and put in some shaping, like Bonne Marie does on her blog (http://www.chicknits.com/rambles/)?

Shaping sounds good. Or you could make Flora a bit shorter. Of course I don't know what you look like, so I'm not sure which is the best solution for you. But I know how awful it is when you have paid a fortune for the yarn and spent hours creating these complicated Fair Isle patterns, and then it simply doesn't look good enough when you're wearing it...

i was going to suggest steaking some seams into flora. but i have never tried it myself so you really would be flying blind.

congatulations on the new groovy bike!

Wow, I'm impressed by your Flora. This would take me at least 3 months (or 3 years?)

And a great bike too. But I'm stunned with the fact that you never had your bike stolen in the six years you studied in Groningen. More than ten bikes I must have lost in this town...

Certainly looking good, that new bike of yours... Mariken is going to use your old one in Almere. No retirement just yet, I'm afraid...

Just wanted to say that Saartjes old bicycle is still in use! She gave it to me, and now the bike lives in Almere.

Thank you for the the present Saartje!
Hopefully it will not get stolen in Almere...

Hi Saartje,
a wonderfull blog!! Great! All of them...knits and your bicycle. A Batavus. Looks very good. It`s a monaco, or what is it? I have also a very old black bicycle for every day, but I love it.
So thanks for the beautiful picture of your knitworks.
Many greetings from Maartje
