A little hat

On Thursday, one of my cousins became a father with a beautiful little girl. She was born a little too early, so she has to stay in the hospital for some time. Today, I made her a little hat:

I used a balloon to make a model of her head, as I have no idea about the size of baby's heads, especially of those who are born early. I used yarn from my stash. It's Austermann Barkarole, a blend with 70% merino, 20% silk and 10% cashmere. I figured she deserved something nice and soft! Let's hope it fits and her parents like it...

The rest of my knitting time was spent on the Herringbone Gloves.

Some of you commented on the fact that the pattern is in Japanese. Well, even though I don't speak or read Japanese, I think the pattern is very understandable, if you know a little bit about the way a glove is made. Just take a close look at the charts and you will figure it out. You don't need the text.

By the way, the ones I've made before are over here.

And tomorrow it's back to work for me....

Congratulations to your family! The new baby will certainly love wearing a soft, warm hat and her parents will appreciate the whimsy of the pattern and the luxuriousness of the fiber. Sweetness!

I am sure the parents will love it. My youngest son was a NICU baby for 22 days, and it was so wonderful that women quilted small quilts and made small crochet caps and hats...we were given a quilt and hat to bring home with us. I will keep and cherish those always, because they brightened some very long days. I hope the baby is able to grow well and quickly, and home in her parents arms soon!

Oh that hat is adorable - and I can imagine it must be very soft because of that lovely yarn! I'm sure it will be much apreciated!
The gloves are absolutely beautiful! I can see now that it should be possible making them without reading japanese - the charts are very clear - I just didn't scroll far enough down the first time!

Oh how could your cousin not love that hat.
Those gloves are just gorgeous. I especially love the color combination. I need to get some glove knitting experience before tackling that Japanese.

Congratulations! And the hat is gorgeous, too. I learned how to knit last year when both of my sisters had babies. I have a link to your blog on my blog; you have many knitting fans on the east coast of Canada.
I'm in the middle of knitting your Noro hat and it's beautiful.
Thanks... I really enjoy your blog.

Groet, Froukje

saartje-

i am wearing my new noro hat. thank you so much for sharing your pattern- and telling me about noro wool. i loved your hat when i first saw the photo of it on your website- and then was puzzled that you only used 1 "color." i am a new knitter and didn't know about noro yarns.

your hat pattern is so comfy- and everyone that sees my new noro hat loves it- and wants me to make them one! i went to download your pattern again - but it is missing from the web. will you put the pattern back up on the web sometime? i hope so.

thanks again!
