Knitting on

I really value all your sympathy and encouragement about the Mermaid situation! I know I will make it right someday, right now I'm having fun with Ellen's Stockings.

I finished the first one today. It's a lovely pattern, though I did change some things of course, like using my own heel and toe. To take this picture, I put the sock on a sock blocker I made from a wire clothes hanger. It was very easy to make using the instructions from the Needletrax website.

You were right, the blooming tree I showed in my last entry was indeed a willow, a Goat Willow [boswilg] to be exact. I'm enjoying the way nature is waking up after its wintersleep. Today, I took this picture:

It's a Lady's Mantle [vrouwenmantel], covered in dew droplets. Nice, eh? The weather was quite nice this weekend, with some sunshine which made for a pleasant temperature. And I wasn't the only one enjoying it!

Some lovely, new yarn-to-be!

Bijv. in Bergen,Oslo,Trondheim

Thanks for the sock blocking with wire idea. I usually don't block before wearing socks but I think I'd like to now. Many love Lady's Mantle in their gardens primarily for this reason. They are so beautiful after a shower, with rain water collected in the leaves, reflecting sunlight like prisms. Love your site :)

fijne dag!

I've been watching Mermaid, inspired, and am so sad you ran into a snag. There are surely ways to finish the sleeve as is and disguise the difference in length, by adding some sort of cuff treatment. Or, perhaps the difference isn't even visible when you put it on--have you tried basting both sleeves in to see if it's noticeable? 1/2" is a small difference in a sleeve. Sadly, if the worst case is true, and the discrepancy IS clearly visible, you are the kind of careful knitter who would probably always be bothered by the mistake. In which case you have my condolences and sympathy when you do what you must do. It's worth it, but it's still no fun.

hoi Saartje,
Dag,
Mariët

the ellen's sock is so pretty! i had forgotten that i have that particualr nancy bush book, so thanks for the reminder! i've been knitting so many self-striping sock yarns lately, that i am certain now that i will knitup a solid or semi-solid and make these stockings. also, thanks for the link for making the coat hanger sock blockers. i have an old pair of "meida's socks", another nancy bush estonian design from IK spring '97, hanging on the porch right now, and will hopefully dry faster than laid out on a tabletop. happy knitting!
