The gloves are done
The Norwegian-Japanese gloves are finished! They turned out to be a very quick knit: they took me only 4 days to make, out of which I had to work 3 days. I think it had a lot to do with the heavier weight yarn. These were knit on 3 mm needles in stead of the 2 mm needles I'm used to. With only 54 stitches in the round, and a stranded pattern that makes you want to knit the next round, and the next, and the next.... you're finished in no time!

Knitting these from a Japanese pattern was not a problem at all. If you want to see what the pattern looks like, go to this entry on Nanettes blog. She is showing a picture of what a Japanese pattern looks like. I did notice a mistake in the charts: the motifs on the fingers are not the exactly same in the charts as they are in the photographs in the front of the book. I followed the charts and I'm okay with how they turned out. Next time however, I will make them like the photographs.
Details of this project are over here.
Okay, so now those are done, I can finally concentrate on the last sleeve of my Mermaid. I did get some rows done today, see?

I hope to get it done before I have to return to work again on Tuesday. Not sure if I will make it though... it's such a boring thing to knit and the way the pattern is written just annoys me terribly. Oh well, the end result will be great, so I just have to get on with it!

The gloves are awesome! I feel more and more tempted to buy the book (I looked at the example page and it looks like I could encipher the pattern directions. I have some Japanese sewing books and the instructions are really obvious indeed). Would you recommend any other knitting books from the same source?

WOW! You are so fast! I am impressed. In four days, I would be happy to finish just one glove! They look absolutely beautiful. I've been thinking of ordering the Crossed In Translation pattern (in Japanese) but I'm scared! I can fudge my way through a knitting pattern that is written in other languages but it's the different character set that worries me about that one.

Great looking gloves. Your stitches are so neat. I love the read and white, too.

That is so weird Saartje! In my copy of the book the finger motifs are the same way they are in the photograph! However the book cost me more than you for some reason - not just the shipping but the actual book price.
I love your gloves. They really turned out to be beautiful!

Those gloves are gorgeous! I'm just finishing up my first year at culinary school and now I have time to concentrate on my knitting. I should be posting some pics soon. I want to try some Japanese patterns!
