Finishing
I finally managed to do some laundry this weekend. So here they are, fresh and clean:
Ellen's Stockings from Folk Knitting in Estonia by Nancy Bush. I yet have to create a page for them in my finished items album, maybe tomorrow. I like the way they turned out and the way the yarn bloomed after washing.
I also went shopping for buttons this weekend. I found some I really liked, I think they go with the baby cardigan very well. Although I liked the idea of a wooden button too, I went for this:
Simple but sophisticated, don't you think? I was a bit surprised by how much I had to pay for them (there is a similar smaller one on the inside): € 1.70 for two simple buttons! (This is one of the occasions I still calculate back from euros to Dutch guilders: € 1.70 used to be f 3.74! Remember: only two buttons!) It's not like they were made of gold or anything. But anyway, they were definately the best ones there, so I got them anyway and put them on straight away.
So after I got the baby cardigan done, I thought about resuming work on the infamous Mermaid. I didn't feel any inspiration when I did this, so obviously it wasn't time yet. I surfed the internet for a while, looking for knitting inspiration, when I ran into this.
So I made this:
Easy and fun to make, using Drops Alpaca and lots of small beads.

Hoi Saartje, je sokken zijn mooi geworden. En het baby jasje ziet er erg leukuit. Wat een prijs voor die knopen zeg!! Heb je die bloem zo uit je hoofd gebreid? Knap hoor. Zondag ga ik naar Noorwegen. Ben benieuwd of ik de husfliden winkels kan vinden. Ook ben ik benieuwd of ik mooi garen kan vinden. Wie weet de Raumagarens!

The Ellen's Stockings are lovely! And the little beaded flower was a clever idea--it looks like it would be the perfect finishing touch on a felted bag, or perhaps you could pin it to your lapel like a brooch. :-)

Je sokken zijn prachtig geworden.
De knoop op het babyvestje vind ik leuk en duur.
Het gebreide bloemetje is erg leuk. Veel groetjes
en succes met breien.
Ik ben met de duim van m'n vierde lapse want bezig. Het eerste deel van m'n wantenproject is dus bijna af.

saartje wat een prachtige sokken en wat een prachtige kleur blauw, is geloof ik koningsblauw, ik heb nog even de link aangeklikt om naar het boek te kijken maar amazon gaf een idioot hoge prijs op, zeker een foutje? zijn de patronen makkelijk te volgen?
andere vraag heb jij wel eens sokken gebreid met het dure lorna laces? ik niet, ik vind het zo duur weet je wat ik je wel kan aanraden, dat is de nieuwe sokkenwol van regia met bamboo, zo zacht en luchtig, echt voor de zomer die maar niet wil komen, het is hier nu gewoon onstuimig, groetjes

Leuk om op je website te kijken! Ik krijg de kriebels om weer nieuwe dingen op te zetten. Ik heb een vraag over het mermaid vest van Hanne....?
Op haar website zien de kledingstukken er heel compact gebreid uit. Worden ze misschien een beetje vervilt?

Buttons are expensive, particularly in this country as increasingly they become a specialised item. I can't buy any buttons in the city where my parents live anymore unless they're novelty ducks or kittens, or huge shiny plasticky blinders, designed to severely injure anyone short who stands near the wearer of a cardigan so adorned. Then in London they're a half-hour bus ride from my flat... :) Worth it, though, since buttons can be so lovely! And the ones you chose look perfect with the cardigan.
Nice socks, too. And the flower is beautiful! Will you wear it as a brooch or sew it onto something?

saartje, ik kom elke keer weer terug om naar je blauwe ajoursokken te kijken, vind het patroon zo mooi en de kleur is werkelijk schitterend, echt nogmaals mijn complimenten, ben gewoon jaloers op je sokken
