Birthday girl

Hi everyone, I have so much to tell you! First of all, thanks for the nice comments on the Vanalinn Gloves from 'A Gathering of Lace'. I made a page for them in my finished things album, where you can find all the details of this project.

Last weekend, it was my birthday. To celebrate, my dear sister took me to the Breibrink in Annen.

This shop is well worth a visit. They sell yarn by Katia, Phildar and Gedifra among others. I was really happy to see some yarn by the Norwegian firm Garnstudio (you know, the one with all the free patterns online, even in Dutch!)

The shop is conveniently arranged, look at the lovely colors of the yarn. You can't see all the yarn they have in this picture, there is more right next to the embroidery floss. It was difficult for me to control myself (I have enough yarn at home to last me a life time) but I managed to walk away with only 3 balls of Garnstudio Eskimo, a gift from my sister.

I plan to make felted mittens out of it. I just love the greyish-blue color. By the way, if you decide to visit the Breibrink, make sure you also go to the Ryahuis in Zuidlaren, only 5 km from Annen. They're both great shops, and they sell different things.

The rest of the weekend, my birthday went on and I was spoiled big time. Take a look at these:

Birthdaybooks.jpg

Knitting books! I've already started to read 'A History of Hand Knitting', it's very interesting. I'll show you more of the other two books in the future, but I can tell you right now they're great.

I also did some knitting during the last week. I finished a pair of beaded alpaca wristwarmers.

The design is from the booklet by Pinnsvinn Design my brother brought back from Norway for me. I adapted it somewhat, and I'm very happy with the result.

Yesterday, I started the Bayerische Sock by Eunny Jang (you can find part 1 here)

So far, I like it, even though it is a bit hard on my hands. I also like the Cable Net socks in the new edition of Knitty.

Happy belated birthday, Saartje! Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend-- how nice, for your loved ones to spoil you so. And I love your beaded wristwarmers-- is it cool enough to wear them already?

Posted by: Yuki at September 23, 2006 5:18 PM

You've been busy! The wristwarmers are great - I've been longing to try beaded knitting :0)

And I love the lace gloves from your last post - well done!

It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday. Allow me to add my best wishes for your special day.

Saartje, you've done something very dangerous--posted the Garnstudio web site. I'd never been there before. The patterns there are WOW!! I've already printed up two hat patterns that I might make for one of my grandsons. I spent the last fifteen minutes browsing there and have barely scratched the surface.

There's not enough time to make everything I want to make!!!

Happy belated birthday! I love the Bayerische Sock, but they seem a little to ambitious for me to start right now. I can't wait to see your version- I love watching you and all your small, intricate projects.

Oh what a wonderful shop!! I am in awe of your knitting ability - I am only just getting the hang of cables so you can see how impressive your lovely knitting is to me!
happy happy birthday to you!

Hallo Saartje,

Myriam

Hey! Nog gefeliciteerd!
I still have to start my wristwarmers, too much other stuff going on... I love yours by the way, they make me want to hurry up and make a pair of my own!

A very Happy Birthday. Thanks for sharing the link to those free patterns. Your beaded wristwarmers are really lovely. It would be too warm here in England for them at the moment.

Happy Birthday, Saartje,
Your beaded wristwarmers are so lovely and thanks for your free pattern. The next winter is comming soon!

TIP!!!!

Thanks for the link to Garnstudio! I have been looking for a good slipper pattern and I think I found one! It calls for the Eskimo, too, which looks lovely, but no suppliers in my area and no luck with the links on the website... typical, now I am on a quest. So, enjoy your birthday present! The socks look fab, too, btw. I have been lurking and enjoy your blog. Thanks.

Oh My! That yarn store looks fabulous. I've never seen one so thoroughly packed and neatly aranged like that. It's akin to Knitters heaven (sans the bathtub full of plush yarns :)

Bedankt.
(en de groeten van Rina)
