I did it again

So I was merrily knitting along on the second sleeve. Everything was going fine, soon I was going to have a finished cardigan. Then, for some reason, I decided to double check the second sleeve against the first, finished one.

At the cuff end, everything was looking fine.

But at the shoulder end....

PiS_07-07-02a.jpg

Something clearly went wrong here. Or should I say: when will I learn to count and count again? This brings back memories. I can't believe I did it again! Sigh.... Of course, my motivation to rip, reknit and finish this thing has dropped to zero right now, so I will be focussing on other knits in progress for a while. Like this baby cardigan for example:

Drops_cardigan_07-07-02.jpg

It's a Drops pattern. It's available from the Garnstudio website in lots of languages, among which Dutch and English. The pattern number is Baby Drops 14-27. I'm using Drops Alpaca and a 2.5 mm circular. I'm ready to start the second sleeve but I'm feeling a bit nervous to start it, considering my past experience with second sleeves. I'm trying to build up the courage to do it by knitting Lotte some socks.

And here she is, sitting on her father's arm, wearing her Fana cardigan. She seems pleased with it.

Here is another view. She's lying on a blanket my mother knit her.

Isn't it great? It's a pattern from And so to bed... by Lucinda Guy, a book I absolutely adore. The blanket is made from Rowan Cashsoft, yummy!

The sweater project is lovely! And, more importantly, so it your long awaited life long project, Lotte. Good job Mom & Dad!!! She's beautiful!

Lotte is so beautiful! And what a lucky babe to start life with so many lovely handknits!

Posted by: kathy in juneau at July 3, 2007 1:42 AM

Oh, the cuteness! Your little baby is adorable and that little purple sweater isn't half bad either...

Posted by: Elli at July 3, 2007 1:54 AM

She is adorable and that blanket is spectacular!!

Posted by: Chris at July 3, 2007 1:57 AM

What beautiful knits! I like them all. Your daughter is the cutest little person ever.

Posted by: nikki at July 3, 2007 2:01 AM

Oh NO! Can you just snip a thread and unravel enough at the top to pick up some live stitches and knit up?
That is one beautiful baby, and I LOVE the blanket from Gramma!

Posted by: Carrie at July 3, 2007 2:14 AM

man eveything is SO cute, loved that drops cardi!

Posted by: pixie at July 3, 2007 2:58 AM

There you go again with the adorably perfect baby socks....and baby!

Posted by: Heather at July 3, 2007 3:22 AM

She's absolutely beautiful...and in that wee little sweater! Incredible.

Posted by: Siri at July 3, 2007 3:47 AM

My condolences on your sleeve problems... oy! On the happier side, I do love all the colors you choose for your projects. Lotte is such a sweet little girl!

Posted by: Karma at July 3, 2007 5:56 AM

How cute!

Posted by: Jolanda at July 3, 2007 6:47 AM

Zo moeder, zo dochter en straks zo kleindochter!Allemaal breisters.

Posted by: Tijm at July 3, 2007 7:23 AM

That blanket is AMAZING! And I love the colours of both your in-the-works cardigans.

Posted by: Shannon at July 3, 2007 12:17 PM

Love all your baby knits on your sweet baby

Posted by: Amy at July 3, 2007 1:47 PM

Lotte is such a beautiful girl...
What beautiful knits. I love them all

Posted by: mumintroll at July 3, 2007 2:16 PM

Beautiful - all of it! That blanket is amazing, and thankyou for the link to the Garnstudio patterns - they're great.

Posted by: Alison at July 3, 2007 3:19 PM

Beautiful knits in the works! The jacket is gorgeous - maybe blocking would correct the sleeve? (It doesn't seem to be too much off in the photo.)

Posted by: CoffeeLady at July 3, 2007 3:55 PM

GAH! Stupid sweaters. Your sweater story hits a raw nerve - something I've recently experienced with first time baby sweater knit. YUCK! But then how easy is it to throw that sweater in a pile and be distracted by a heavenly baby and all the fun little things you can knit.

What would you say is the difficulty level of the baby drops pattern? It is so lovely! and unusual.

Posted by: Rani at July 3, 2007 5:33 PM

Posted by: Angelic at July 3, 2007 8:21 PM

I love the blanket ! And your baby girl is so beautiful !

Posted by: Angsoka at July 3, 2007 9:19 PM

Hoi Saartje,
Wat een mooie plaatjes. Zo teer.

Groet, Ria

Posted by: Ria at July 3, 2007 9:55 PM

Oh Saartje,

Lotte is so beautiful...a little princess!!
And the blanket ist absolutely amazing. I love it!

Posted by: Maartje at July 3, 2007 9:55 PM

Saartje,

Such lovely knits and Lotte is so beautiful. Thank you for the free pattern for your bootees. I will be knitting them while on holiday this week. I am going to use a hand dyed sock yarn called Field of Flowers. Thanks again!

Posted by: Cassie at July 4, 2007 12:50 AM

What a sweet little pumpkin Lotte is! She's one of the prettiest knitwear models I've seen in a long while.

Posted by: Ruth at July 4, 2007 2:18 AM

I hope Carrie's solution will work, rather than un-doing the whole sleeve. Do let us know!! When I was at Beach Knits (in Manhattan Beach, CA) I watched the owner undo a whole sleeve because the gauge wasn't right. (Although hers didn't have the pattern work, just ST.) Lotte is lovely!

Posted by: PainterWoman at July 4, 2007 7:29 AM

Lots of lovely knitting and a lovely babygirl. Your new baby cardigan is lovely, Garnstudio Designs has a lot of nice patterns. Have a lovely summer :)

Posted by: mettepia at July 4, 2007 7:45 AM

Gosh, it must be overwelming to be surrounded by so much beauty! And by that I mean your beautifull daughter ánd your knitting! ;-)

Posted by: saskia at July 4, 2007 8:42 AM

aww so delicious...I can just feel the softness of that baby blanket too!

Posted by: Marianne at July 4, 2007 11:50 AM

Posted by: Marijna at July 4, 2007 11:56 PM

I have to say that you and your mum are both wonderful knitters. I adore that blanket from the Lucinda Guy book, and have knitted some things from it too. I also love her other book as well. I love the baby socks and cardigan and Drops do have some great baby patterns too which I have printed out. I love your purple cardigan, and maybe after a little rest you will be motivated to knit it again.

Posted by: Sue at July 5, 2007 3:11 AM

Posted by: claudia at July 5, 2007 6:00 PM

Oh, again, so much loveliness from you. The baby is just adorable in her sweater, and that blanket! I can understand why you would be distracted (uneven sleeves is a small price to pay...)

Posted by: nicole at July 5, 2007 6:59 PM

I just found your blog and have completely fallen in love with your work. I'm going to knit up a pair of those booties this weekend!

And thank you for introducing me to not one but two amazing sweaters that I want to knit now. You work is stunning--I can only hope that my items will turn out as lovely.

Posted by: Leslie at July 6, 2007 12:42 AM

Oh, my - that baby sweater is something else; just beautiful, and the colors that you chose are perfect.

And the baby - absolutely adorable. She'll be a knitter for sure - Go mom for the beautiful blanket too!

Posted by: Marijgje at July 6, 2007 3:39 PM

I love the socks and cardigan and that blanket is fantastic!

Oh my! You work magic! Thank you for the wonderful bootie pattern, I just found your blog and saw the Noro hat, had to have that too! Thank you for sharing these patterns. And congrats on the little angel!

Posted by: Olga at July 7, 2007 3:39 PM

Your work is beautiful. Sorry about your sleeve. I have had a few of those lately too!

Posted by: Susan Herrick at July 7, 2007 7:26 PM

I got here by way of your wonderful bootee pattern (and ravelry) - thank you for sharing - they are darling, as is this sweet child!

Posted by: stacey at July 8, 2007 6:44 AM

I just found your blog. I love the baby booties. Thank you so much for posting this pattern. I have many friends having babies now and these make great gifts.

Sorry you are having so much trouble with your sleeve. I have encountered trouble like this before myself. Darn counting!! I hope the rest of your sleeves go more smoothly.

Posted by: Jude at July 9, 2007 5:07 PM

Yesterday I looked at the blog of Jared (http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/) and he just finished your booties. They are on his blog with great pictures, have you seen them yet?

Posted by: Angelic at July 9, 2007 9:02 PM

I'm another here because of your adorable booties. But I came here from Brooklyn Tweed's blog, not Ravelry. The booties with the little crossed straps are so adorable...but then, Lotte's even cuter. What a precious babe and what beautiful knits. I've bookmarked your blog and will be visiting often, I believe.

Posted by: Sarah R at July 10, 2007 12:51 AM

Your baby projects are just gorgeous. Thank you so much for the free baby bootees pattern - I think I'll knit some for my granddaughter tonight. I will be coming back to your blog again - I'd love to see more of your progress.

Posted by: sandra at July 10, 2007 10:12 AM

Dear Saartje,
I have knitted your wonderful bootees and blogged them yesterday. Thank you for such a wonderful, easy to follow, instant success pattern.

Posted by: Sabine at July 10, 2007 11:21 AM

Your sweet beautiful baby looks so happy and content. She can feel all the love knit into the blankets and clothing.

Hallo saartje!

groetjes, knijn

Posted by: Knijn at July 10, 2007 9:37 PM

Hij doet het!!! :)

Posted by: knijn at July 10, 2007 11:08 PM

Hi, what is the name of the purple sweater you were knitting with the sleeve that is too long? It doesn't look like the February Zimmerman sweater. Thanks.

Posted by: Dottie at July 21, 2007 6:23 PM

What a gorgeous baby! She's so fortunate to have a mom and grandma so proficient at knitting. Your knitted items are definitely heirloom quality! Thank you for keeping us so entertained and also motivated with your lovely blog.
