A quickie

For the past two weeks I have been trying to compose an interesting blog entry with answers to some of the questions I've been getting lately. However, somehow I can't seem to get it ready just now. So in the meantime: a short message just to let you know I'm still here! Some recent knitting related pictures:

Two balls of Regia Kaffe Fassett, given to me by the LYS owners of the Ryahuis in Zuidlaren to make something for Lotte. Such a nice gesture!

I'm knitting the Highland Scottische Kilt Hose from Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. I had always wondered what these stocking would look like when worn, and after seeing some examples at Mustaa Villaa, Knit two, purl two, Bowerbird knits and Knitting to stay sane, I just had to cast on. I'm using the new Lana Grossa Meilenweit Seta/Cashmere (65% wool, 15% silk, 16% polyamid, 4% cashmere) and I have to say: it's a pleasure to knit with.

Not that I need gloves right now

I finished the gloves, right in time for the mini heat wave we're having here at the moment. Not that hot weather has ever stopped me knitting warm woolies, it just makes for some odd photo shoots.

This is the cuff of the second glove. You knit the cuff seperately and then pick up stitches from the top to knit the rest of the glove. That is, if I understood the Japanese directions correctly. It turned out okay, so I'm happy.

With gloves, there are always lots of ends to weave in. I use this wooden needle case to put into the fingers while doing this, it makes the process much easier.

And here they are, all done!

This is what I meant when talking about odd photo shoots: standing on my balcony in 25C/77F weather, wearing wool gloves.

I'm happy with the way they turned out and they fit perfectly. My finished projects page has been long neglected, and it will take me some time to add these gloves and other finished projects so I'll give you the details here first:

Pattern: gloves from Hokuou no knit komonotachi by Shimada Toshiyuki (available only in Japanese)
Yarn: Soft Concious by Hamanaka (83% merino wool, 17% baby alpaca - 40g = 120m)
Gauge: 7.5 spi [30 st= 10cm]
Needles: 3mm
Started: July 20, 2007
Finished: August 1, 2007

Over the next days, I will go over all the questions I got on the blog lately and try to answer them in the next entry. So if you're waiting to hear from me: please stay tuned!
