Not that I need gloves right now

I finished the gloves, right in time for the mini heat wave we're having here at the moment. Not that hot weather has ever stopped me knitting warm woolies, it just makes for some odd photo shoots.

This is the cuff of the second glove. You knit the cuff seperately and then pick up stitches from the top to knit the rest of the glove. That is, if I understood the Japanese directions correctly. It turned out okay, so I'm happy.

With gloves, there are always lots of ends to weave in. I use this wooden needle case to put into the fingers while doing this, it makes the process much easier.

And here they are, all done!

This is what I meant when talking about odd photo shoots: standing on my balcony in 25C/77F weather, wearing wool gloves.

I'm happy with the way they turned out and they fit perfectly. My finished projects page has been long neglected, and it will take me some time to add these gloves and other finished projects so I'll give you the details here first:

Pattern: gloves from Hokuou no knit komonotachi by Shimada Toshiyuki (available only in Japanese)
Yarn: Soft Concious by Hamanaka (83% merino wool, 17% baby alpaca - 40g = 120m)
Gauge: 7.5 spi [30 st= 10cm]
Needles: 3mm
Started: July 20, 2007
Finished: August 1, 2007

Over the next days, I will go over all the questions I got on the blog lately and try to answer them in the next entry. So if you're waiting to hear from me: please stay tuned!

Posted by: sereknitty at August 5, 2007 12:31 AM

Your gloves turned out beautifully, and what a great idea with the wooden dowel to insert so you can weave the ends in easier.

Posted by: Sue at August 5, 2007 3:18 AM

It's beautiful! Lovely , the way the yarn stripes on the hand.

Posted by: erin at August 5, 2007 7:10 AM

Posted by: Tijm at August 5, 2007 7:20 AM

Posted by: Knijn at August 5, 2007 10:33 AM

Posted by: Monique at August 5, 2007 11:13 AM

Errug mooi!!!

Your gloves are great! I love the entrelac.

Posted by: Barb at August 5, 2007 6:30 PM

Posted by: Hannah at August 5, 2007 8:30 PM

they're beautiful! what a great use for entrelac -- it's just enough to be a design element without being overwhelming.

Posted by: jody at August 6, 2007 1:25 AM

Geweldig mooi geworden Saartje, complimenten!

They are beautiful in colors and in pattern! So far I've not made whole gloves, only fingerless gloves. I think your tip for putting the needle case in the fingers will be a help to me in the future. Thank you.

The gloves are really nice! could do with them here, we've had no summer at all. Just wanted to say that i knit a pair of your booties and they turned out really nice, gave them to my friend for her baby yesterday and she went wild over them! Are you going to do up a flickr gallery of booties at any time? I'd be glad to send you photos of mine to contribute to it and Ive seen lots of them popping up all over blogland, and on ravelry

Do you read Japanese? If not, how difficult is it to make sense of the pattern? I have seen several interesting knitting books in Japanese and have wondered if knitting could be a universal language?
