Little mittens
I made a pair of mittens for a new addition to my family: my cousin's baby girl. If you look closely, you can find out her name.
It's a pattern based on a pair of gloves from the wonderful little book called The Mitten Book by Inger and Ingrid Gottfridsson. It's a very humble little book, but I love it. It starts with a bit of history about Swedish mittens and a generic mitten recipe, followed by page after page of mitten examples. They show you a picture of the finished mitten and charts for the motifs used, so you can plug them into the generic pattern (or your own favourite mitten pattern of course). It really is a nice little book if you like scandinavian type mittens.
I'll be sending them off tomorrow. In the meantime, I hope my cousin doesn't read my blog. No real danger of that, I guess, I think most people have stopped reading my blog about now, with my lousy update rate... I'm not quitting, really, I'm not, but I can't make any promises about updates. For those of you who are still reading this: thank you for your patience!

I have not stopped checking on your blog! I never will. Your blog was the first knitting weblog I discovered and I have been a faithful visitor ever since.
You have (not yet) mentioned the authors of the mitten book, but I bet you are talking about Inger and Ingrid Gottfridsson. I recognise the pattern, I also own the book. It is a very lovely book, that requires some mitten knitting experience. I love those traditional scandinavian motives! Your cousin's baby is a lucky little girl!!

Your mittens are so sweet! I have that book...lots of possibilities in it to play with. I think it's time to pull out the mitten yarn again.

Cute mittens! There are very similar ones in Robin Hansen's mitten book - the one I have is Fox & Geese and Fences, I think.

I don't mind the infrequent updates - I mean, I'd love to read more of your words but I subscribe to your RSS feed so it's not like I'm annoyed when you don't post. I'm just pleased when you do and my RSS reader shows me a new post. Lovely mittens!

I love your posts, abd look forward to them. I have the mitten book you mention and have just never gotten around to knitting from it, but your mittens remind me how much I like them. I think they will make wonderful gifts for some of my family. Thank you.

I really love the shape of these mittens. I looked up the book but it appears to out of print. Do you know where i might be able to find a mitten pattern that has a similar shape? I would probably knit them one color (because I'm not that skilled yet) so any pattern would be fine. Also, everyday in winter I wear the Noro hat and get compliments!
